I quite liked this trashy dark academia novel (if you could call it that). While I have a peculiar mix of tastes when it comes to novels, I think there is something for everyone in this book; a stupidly 'smart' protagonist, a broody edward cullen-like love interest, and an overwhelming sense of teenage drama. If twilight and vampire academy had a baby (god forbid they ever do) tihs book would be it - minus the vampires, so I guess maybe I'm wrong on this one. Maybe adding vampires to this book would add some extra appeal though, I know thirteen year old me would appreciate it. The setting description in this book honestly is what saved it for me. I thought that some of the description was honestly beautiful (not goosebump igniting though). The castle in which the majority of the novel takes place in, is beautiful and full of mystery and honestly I wish the castle was the protagonist at this point.
Anyways, uhm yes! The book focuses on a recluse young woman (Corvina - which by the way is a type of fish) who is asked to attend a university for edgelords and thats where she meets edgerlord himself Vad (crazy name that definitely wasn't found on the most popular edgy names of 2000 list). Lots of tensions and yadda-yadda-yadda they end up fucking and thats probably what you wanted to know really isn't it? After all that's literally the main substance of most of these books. I did enjoy the book though for its element of mystery, combined with the steamy angry sex. The book takes a turn in the end (I won't spoil it since I know you are itching to get your hands on the book), and it is so unexpected that it'll have you scratching your head thinking whether the author patched the end of another book to this one. If I was to rate this book out of ten, I would probably give it a solid four because it is a mid-kinda book, but not mid enough for it to actually be a five.
Date of completion: Some time at the start of July 2023
